Setup was easy - Add Oil & Gas one pull cord and up and running
We have used over the last 3 days to power fridge, 2 fans, charge mobile phones and laptops and run a few lights. We are getting approx a run time of just over 13 hours on one tank (4 gallon) of gas.Last night even hooked up the tv and cable so our son could watch some tv. Nick, Nick, Nick, Nickeloden. :)This morning it powered the coffee maker and iron so we could be awake and wrinkle free.I really did not expect the generator to run as long as it did on one tank so very happy with the purchase.Next thing to purchase is something to cover it in case of heavy rain. Setup a tarp over table with bungee cords last night but would like something quicker to setup.If we continue to have the power outage problem here in Oak Park we may look into the natural gas generator that hooks into electric system and fails over automatically. Cost-effective Emergency Power
I bought this generator in preparation for hurricane Irene. Ordered it on Wen., it arrived on Fri., just in time to set it up before the storm (can't beat Amazon Prime!). The generator was easy to set up and started in one pull. This generator provided power sufficient to run the refrigerator, a mini-split a/c unit, TV, and a couple of fluorescent lights for two days. Under this load, a full tank (4 gallons) lasted around 12-14 hours. This unit appears to be a Chinese import so I do have my doubts about long-term reliability, never the less, the DS4000 appears surprisingly well-constructed and capable for the price.Pros:InexpensiveEasy to OperateRelatively Quiet (compared to a 22" lawn mower)CompactEasy to read fuel gaugeCons:Recommended oil change interval of 20 hours (change the oil every other time you fill the gas tank?)Oil drain obscured by frame below (as oil drains it runs along the frame and makes a mess)...

Appears to handle the task
I purchased this generator through an on line auction. After filling with oil and gasoline it started on the second pull. I also purchased a transfer switch to control six circuits (Reliance Model# 31406crk). The generator provides enough power to run my furnace, two refrigerators, a small freezer and some house lights. I would also recommend purchase of the wheel kit. I have only used this generator in a test situation. I don't know how well it will perform for an extended period or if the noise level will become annoying after an extended time.

Wheel kit for DS4000S
Okay here it goes.....Just bought DS4000S Generator,without a wheel kit.Did't take long for me to figure out that an average Joe or Jane just will not be running around with a 100 lb generator without wheels.So I got a set from Amazon.com , the best on line shopping place in my humble opinion. A simple mounting instruction came with it(one page) Now this would be sufficient if there are no glitches but in my case there was a problem, My generator frame was lacking a par of wholes that would mount the left side support leg holes.I specifically ordered this wheel kit to achieve a no problem no glitch quick installation. That didn't work out, so I had to drill a par of holes on the bottom of the left side. Not easy eat all with a 100 lb generator fueled up.It took me 38 minutes for the complete job with the drilling. Not bad but I wasn't to happy about the extra work.If anybody cared I would have one more picture on that assembly and mounting instruction. And that would be a good photo...

Wheel Attachment Kit
I thought this would be a pretty straight forward install. For the most part it was, but one small issue really irked me. The generator has these small rubber "feet" (4 total) which need to be removed in order for the wheel assembly to be installed. Well, one of the 4 feet is in such a tight spot that it cannot be unscrewed and removed. I actually had to use a knife to cut it down to size in order for the wheel assembly to fit flush against the generator. Other than this little issue, the product is great.

Good and Bad
As previous reviewers have said this kit is good quality but was poorly designed. We attached it to a Durostar DS4000S and had some issues but they were able to be worked around. First off the picture guide is NOT helpful in the slightest. Secondly 2 rubber feet on the generator MUST be removed for the axle to attach. You would think this was simple except that the screw for one of the feet happened to be in a very inconvenient location. There is NO way to unscrew it without taking part of the motor off the frame. We wound up *literally* slicing half of the rubber foot off. Thankfully the axle fit on it just fine after this.The tires seem solid and I hope that the little pins that came with it do their job of keeping them attached to the axle.

Great Generator Worth Twice The Price
I purchased this unit as backup to use for power outages and also to take out to the desert. I decided to go for the pull start because of all the reviews about how easy it is. The generator started on the 1st pull, and it seems well built and has a solid construction.It seemed to easily power our overhead 13,500 BTU AC Unit and our 30ft Stealth Toy Hauler. Worked great and it never seemed to bog down. The noise was actually quite minimal. We ran this unit throughout the day in the desert and it didn't bother anyone in the Trailer or surrounding us. The wheel kit makes it easy to move around in sand.Best Generator purchase I have made, well worth the price, I have recommended this unit to friends and family.

Exceeds Expectations
Unpacked it, filled it with oil, put some gas in it, and it started easily, ran smoothly and quietly on the very first pull. Worked perfectly during the Great Snow Storm of October 2011
I ordered this generator right after Hurricane Irene. It took a few weeks to ship (as listed on the site), but came quickly via UPS once it did ship. It was wheeled right into my garage, where I took it out, assembled the wheels, and filled it with oil. The generator was just light enough for me to lift it and flip it around during assembly. Good thing, because the wheel instructions were horrible. The parts described didn't match what was in the box and the instructions were worse than useless. However, having assembled more than my share of stuff I did better looking at the picture on the box and test fitting everything before tightening all the bolts. The folding handles are very convenient and make it easy to wheel the thing around the yard. I filled it with oil the Friday before the big storm hit - royal pain. Be sure to get a long, curved, thin, flute funnel since the oil fill hole is basically horizontal under the outlets, and use exactly the 20 fluid ounces indicated...

Rural In The PNW
Purchased this generator in the Fall of 2011. This is a decent product for the $ it costs and the free shipping helps with the price as well. It had signs of a rough ride during the delivery, all of the shippping braces were disloged and or broken and a few nuts and bolts had vibrated completely off. Other than that it was still intact on delivery. Takes around an hour to assemble and even came with a tool kit, extra set of brushes and two 120V plugs; I guess if you live in a place where supplies are limited DURO has you covered.We really needed a generator to help ease the stress when the lights go out and the water supply shuts down. Good generator, misleading description
I purchased this generator during a week long power outage so that we'd be prepared for the next one. Amazon was backordered for 1-3 months but it showed up on my doorstep in 2 days so I got to use it for 3 full days during the outage. I Love Amazon!It's decent generator but the description is very misleading. At the time of purchase it was advertised to have Automatic Idle Control which typically means that the generator will idle itself down to conserve gas if there's no load. This feature is typically only available on high end generators so I was super excited to have it on this one. DuroMax does NOT have AIC, if you read their long description on the MaxTool site this will become obvious. According to MaxTool the only differences between the MX4500 and more common XP4400 are: color (red vs. blue), an extra 100 peak watts (useless), new frame design, and new packaging. Good performance, excellent value
We live in Southern Louisiana, smack-dab in the middle of hurricane alley, and decided to purchase a backup generator to deal with power outages in the event of an emergency. I wanted sufficient power capacity to run our refrigerator, a small portable AC, a few lights, a small TV, charge our cell-phones, and occasionally charge laptop batteries. Power Max XP4400E & XP4400 Generator
By Ernie, Retired Journeyman Lineman. The XP4400E is well worth the extra cost over the XP4400, as starter rope must be pulled out at an angle.This is an excellent generator for the money. The voltage regulation is excellent. Amazing output for it's size along with being very quite for the output that it has. The discription Amazon has for it is great, so many items are not discribed well enough. There is a couple points I want to share with present owners and would be owners.(1) The voltage selector switch not only changes the voltage monitor 120 to 240 but it's main function is tap changing, this being the reason it must not be switched unless breaker is off (open) or generator shut down. It parallels the two power windings when set for 120 to the 120 sockets and the 120-240 socket. You can draw full capacity fron the 120 sockets or at the 120-240 socket from terminals Bu & R, the W terminal has no voltage so 240 is not available now. (Refer to owners manual wiring...

Overall, I'm very pleased with this generator. It is definitely a good value for the money. The FedEx guy delivered it in good condition. The packaging was excellent. I pulled it out of the box, installed the wheel kit (5-10 minutes), filled it with fuel and oil and it started right up. It is fairly quiet for a generator, but keep in mind quiet is a relative thing. I would say it is definitely quieter than a lawn mower or a typical Briggs&Stratton generator with a lawnmower type muffler (this generator has an automotive type muffler which helps keep the noise down).It seems to be pretty well built and I expect it to hold up just fine. I bought it as an emergency backup generator and I feel it really is perfect for that use. I think if you are looking for a generator that will get a ton of regular use, you would probably be better off to spend the extra money and get a Honda. Great Bargain on a Great Generator!!
Just like me, always preparing for "the end". :)Anyhow, this is a fantastic generator!! As another reviewer stated, I put gas and oil in and she fired up on the first pull!! Remarkably quiet, runs very smooth, and everything is solid on this unit! Metal gas tank WITH GAUGE, metal gas cap, the 12v DC charge pins are a GREAT addition should you need to charge a battery while running the generator. Plenty of outlets, a V gauge, breaker switch, nice On/Off switch, the wheel/handle kit is a true bonus, and it also came with a free nylon cover for when it's put away it'll look just like new! Even the paint job is nicely done. For the money you can't beat this price, especially the shipping!! Take a look around, you will NOT find a better deal on a generator with these features.It's worth noting that the system is a 4400watt PEAK load.
